Q: what is the name of this piece?

A: "ReMOAT"

Q: what is this piece about?

A: This piece is specifically about the anonymous, passive stance we assume when we plop down in front of the tube to watch a game show, an action movie, a human interest story or real people in places outside our living room getting blown up, gunned down or whacked in the head with sticks.
"oooh, how exciting!"
"oooh, how moving!"
"oooh, how horrible!"
Yet very little moves us to get out of our seats. This piece takes away the passive nature of watching television and re-introduces some of the dynamics of real world interaction to see how people will respond. Do people see ME? Is it moving toward ME?... am I on the Internet? Maybe. Currently, because of time constraints, the piece responds to only a few, very cliché TV experiences, but I hope to expand its emotional vocabulary in future installations. Sex and Violence are the classics of television viewing and, therefore, had to be addressed first. Where would the moral majority be without them?

Q: how is your work "technology-based"?

A: Without technology, I wouldn't have a topic or a medium.

Special Thanks to:
Michael Fogarty for all his work on the electronics and more. Jonathan Cohen for the software. Rebecca Castonguay for sewing and helping me build. A few other folks who are going to help out but I don't know who they are yet. Skawennati Fragnito, Jason Lewis, GenArtSF, MOTO, Miquela
